Frequently Asked Questions

New to dancing? Never danced before?

If you are a complete beginner and have never danced, do not be concerned. Many of our students, both young and old, have never danced before.  Although we recommend you take at least 1 private lesson before joining an existing class, it is not mandatory. From there you can start taking some of the beginner group classes or just continue with some private instruction to give you a better understanding of the different dance styles and what you would like to work on.

Do I need a partner?

Absolutely not!   In all our group classes we rotate partners* so everyone gets a chance to improve their leading and following skills with a variety of partners.  *Partner rotation is currently optional.

How long are the lessons?

All of our group classes are 45 minutes in length, and private lessons are 1/2 hour or one hour. Many of our students use time before or after lessons for practice.   Floor rental for practice is available for reasonable prices.

Do I have to pay all at once? What are my payment options?

Lessons and groups are offered on a pay-as-you go basis with some monthly discounts offered.

Should I practice? If so, how much?

It all depends on your goals and how fast you you’d like to progress. You may practice at one level for a special dance at a wedding, or socially, and another level when participating in a dance competition. Although it all depends on you, for the best success we recommend you take notes after your class and plan to spend time going over your notes in practice. Of course, one of the best ways to increase your proficiency is to practice and go out dancing as much as possible.   Monthly dances offered at the studio are a great way to meet people while practicing your new skills!
